About the
Play
In this new production from award winning
Estuary Players, Frank McGuinness's powerful
family drama becomes the focus for questions
about relationships with the past and the
present. A richly inventive piece of
theatre, this darkly humorous play provides
laughter and tears in equal measure.
The McKenna family gather at their holiday
home to mark the 21st birthday of their late
son who died some years previously. Unsure
of how to deal with this anniversary, each
member of the family copes with their
memories in different ways. Enter another
distant relation who was with their son at
the time of his death and the fire is lit
for recriminations and bitter memories.
McGuinness invests the pay with plenty of
dark gallows humour so you won't be sure at
times whether to laugh or cry.
